West of the Oquirrhs

West of the Oquirrhs is a collection of watercolors that were created around themes that are familiar. These are places and objects that while not unique to us, seem to speak of that place we call home.
"Revenge of the Armadillo" Ruth A. Nichols, Watercolor; The Tooele Demolition Derby is an event that draws the entire county for a summer evening of fun. The purple and pink car is owned by drivers that enter a car each year to support breast cancer survivors.
"Clothespins" Ruth A. Nichols, Watercolor; I grew up in a household where we hung the family laundry out on a clothesline in the backyard. These humble clothespins are a symbol of home for me.
"Yellow Iron" Ruth A. Nichols, Watercolor; Yellow Iron is another name for machinery used to in earthwork. This well used machine was an interesting experiment in color and form.
"Testing the Waters" Ruth A. Nichols, Watercolor; This is a painting of the pool where my children have swam competitively for many years. These are my daughter and her friends feet right before the start of the meet.

"Rio Gallery" Ruth A. Nichols, Watercolor This train stood on a rail siding in the west desert of Utah for a number of years. It had the most amazing graffiti art on it. I happened to be there during a rain storm to take reference photos for this photo.
